World Environment Day tomorrow

DHAKA, June 4, 2018 (BSS) – The World Environment Day, 2018 will be

creating mass awareness about the adverse impacts of plastic use.

This year’s theme of the day is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ while slogan of
the day is ‘if you cannot reuse it, refuse it’.

Different government and non-government organisations (NGOs) as well as
educational institutions have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the
day.

International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Bangladesh will
organise a discussion at Jatiya Press Club here tomorrow at 11 am.

discussion as the chief guest.

programmes marking the day. The programmes include planting saplings, holding
seminar and bringing a procession on the campus.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued
separate messages on the occasion of the day, wishing success of all the
programmes of the day.

Marking the day, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a message said:
“A healthy planet is essential for a prosperous and peaceful future. We all
have a role to play in protecting our only home, but it can be difficult to
know what to do or where to start.”

That’s why this World Environment Day has just one request: beat plastic
pollution, he added.

The World Environment Day is the UN’s most important day for encouraging
worldwide awareness and action for the protection of environment. Since it
began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach
that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.
