DHAKA, Dec 2, 2019 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in socio-economic development, as its GDP growth reached 8.13 per cent in the last fiscal year.

“The estimates of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) showed the GDP growth rose to 8.13 per cent in 2018-19, from 7.86 per cent the previous year. Per Capita Income touched 1909 US Dollar,” he said.

Anisul came up with the observations while addressing the concluding session of a conference on inclusion, innovation and integration for inclusive governance in Bangladesh held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).

Organized by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the session was also addressed, among others, by Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Gowher Rizvi, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of European Union Rensje Teerink, Ambassador of Japan Naoki Ito and Resident Representative of UNDP Sudipto Mukerjee.

“Now we are $302 billion economy moving forward with mega development projects including Taka 300 billion worth Padma bridge, Taka 22 billion metro rail, elevated expressway, flyovers, dozens of economic zones and Payra seaport,” a law ministry release quoted Anisul.

The law minister further said the government will form a high-powered district case coordination committee to dispose of all the pending cases across the country.

“There are 34 lakh cases still pending. The committee, comprising district judges, deputy commissioners and superintendents of police, will play an important role in disposing of all the pending cases immediately,” he added.

Responding to a query, Anisul said the number of pending cases is going up due to different reasons including absence of witnesses.
