MADRID, Spain, Dec 02, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has agreed to take over the charge of the chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) next year.

“The honourable prime minister has accepted a proposal of Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine in this regard on the opening day of the 25th Annual Conference of Parties (COP25), known as the UN Climate Change Conference, here,” Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said this today while briefing reporters after the first day of conference.

“I’m ready to take over the charge of the chair of the CVF if everybody endorses this,” the foreign minister quoted the premier as saying.

The CVF was founded by the Maldives government before the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, which sought to increase awareness of countries considered vulnerable.

Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine is the current chair of the CVF, a global partnership of countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of global warming.

The forum addresses the negative effects of global warming as a result of heightened socioeconomic and environmental vulnerabilities.
