Health experts for preventing adolescent pregnancy

RANGPUR, Dec 2, 2019 (BSS) – Health experts today at an advocacy meeting
here stressed on preventing adolescent pregnancy to reduce maternal and
neonatal deaths by ensuring safe motherhood.

They put emphasis on expanding family planning programmes to every able
couple for containing population growth rate that has become an inevitable
essence for building healthier nation.

The District Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the event at the
conference room of its Divisional Director office before observing the Family
Welfare Service and Publicity Week-2019 from December 7 to 12.

The week will be observed to spread the concept of smaller family,
nutrition, risks of adolescent pregnancy, safe motherhood and delivery and
popularising methods for family planning to ensure safe motherhood.

With Deputy Director of the District FPD Dr Sheikh Md Saidul Islam in the
chair, Divisional Director (Joint Secretary) of the DFP for Rangpur Md Mahbub
Alam attended the event as the chief guest.

Rangpur Regional Consultant of the DFP Dr Ahmed Munaf Chowdhury and Medical
Officer (Clinic) of Rangpur Maternity and Child Welfare Centre Dr Mohtarima
Begum addressed as special guests.

Dr. Saidul Islam discussed field level successes already achieved in
keeping family smaller through adopting different family planning methods
like short, medium and long-term and long acting permanent method (LAPM) in
the district.

Dr. Mohtarima narrated the risks and consequences of adolescent pregnancy
while Dr. Chowdhury stressed on bringing more dynamism in rendering family
planning and family welfare services to contain population growth on way to
attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030.
