Jabbar for strengthening Teletalk

DHAKA, Nov 30, 2019 (BSS) – Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar today underscored the need for strengthening the state-owned mobile operator Teletalk, saying that a rejuvenated Teletalk telecom will bring about a revolutionary change in the mobile phone services.

The minister urged the officials concerned to implement the ongoing projects soon and take necessary measures to establish the Teletalk as “Our Phone”.

Jabbar was addressing a function marking the 15th annual meeting of the Teletalk Bangladesh Limited at Teletalk headquarters in the city’s Gulshan area, said a press release.

Teletalk Bangladesh Limited Board Chairman and Post and Telecommunications Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas presided over the function.

Noting that 5G era will be a different one than 2G and 3G ears, the minister said it is not only a technology for talking or browsing internet or facebook, but it will be the base of industries and commerce like electricity.

Terming the 5G technology as the highway of joining fourth industrial revolution, he said Bangladesh is one of those countries which will introduce the 5G technology first.

The image of Bangladesh has been changed in the world after launching the 5G on trial basis in 2018, Jabbar said, adding that at least six countries expressed keenness to invest in Teletalk, especially in telecommunication sector in the country.

Teletalk Managing Director Md Shahab Uddin, Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) Managing Director Dr Md Rafiqul Matin, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Director General Mohsinul Alam and Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) Managing Director Mashiur Rahman addressed the function, among others.
