President asks teachers not to compromise with principles
RAJSHAHI, Nov 30, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today urged university teachers not to do any compromise with principles and ideals for serving any narrow personal interest.
“It is seen that a section of teachers remains busy with lobbying to get better administrative positions ignoring their duties. Sometimes they use students or involve in illegal dealings to serve their narrow interests . . . But It is really disgraceful as well undignified,” he said.
Addressing the 11st convocation of Rajshahi University (RU) at Sheikh Kamal Stadium here this evening, the President, also the Chancellor of the university, said, “The news items which telecast through different medias, involving the teachers-students, seriously hurt me.”
He urged the teachers to uphold their dignity in their profession through their works as the teachers are the symbols of ideals and principles.
“You are politically conscious indeed. There may be some differences in opinions and thoughts among each other. But you must ensure that this dissimilarity doesn’t effect the institution and learners in any way,” the President suggested.
The President also advised those, who speak highly against corrupt practices, should stay away from all sorts of corruption and misdeeds.
Congratulating the new graduates, Abdul Hamid advised them to remember the contributions of their parents, teachers, society, country and people to making them successful graduates.
“Don’t forget your country and general people. Try to repay your debt through utilizing your talent, works and honesty as you are owed to them for bearing your educational expenses in many ways,” he advised the graduates.
The President also called upon the graduates and university family members to contribute to the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020 and Golden Jubilee of country’s Liberation War in 2021.
Mentioning the contributions of RU teachers and students to the struggle for Independence and the Liberation War with due respect, the President asked authorities concerned to engage all with building a developed Bangladesh in line with that spirit.
At the outset of his speech, the President paid respect to all Language Movement and Liberation War martyrs and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled their contributions to the country.
At the convocation, characterized by fond memories of the new graduates, a total of 3432 students were conferred degrees.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor A.H.M Khairuzzaman Liton, lawmakers, Convocation Speaker Vice Chancellor of Vidyasagar University of India Professor Dr Ranjan Chakrabarti, RU VC Prof M Abdus Sobhan, Pro-VC Dr Chowdhury M Zakaria and RU Treasurer Prof AKM Mostafizur Rahman Al-Arif, among others, were present on the occasion.
