GAIBANDHA, Nov 30, 2019 (BSS) – Seedbeds are being prepared by the farmers
to develop healthy Boro paddy seedlings in all the seven upazilas of the
district this season.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set a target to prepare
seedbed on 6,168 hectares of land to produce Boro paddy seedlings to farm as
many as 1,25,500 hectares of land here during the current Boro season with
the production target of 5,06,000 tonnes of rice, sources said.

Now, the farmers are so much busy in preparing the seedbed on low lands.

To fulfill the target, high quality seeds of Boro paddy like BRRI Dhan-28
BRRI Dhan-29, BRRI Dhan-50 and BRRI Dhan-58 are being distributed to the
farmers at reasonable rates through BADC and other private firms approved by
Seed Certification Agency of the government.

Besides, a lot of farmers have taken preparations to make seedbeds by
sowing their own seeds, not depending on BADC and local markets as they
received training on seed preservation from the field level officials, said
Showkat Osman, district training officer of the DAE.

The DAE officials advised the farmers to buy seeds from BADC and
government approved dealers to get desired output, sources said.

Talking to the BSS, deputy director of DAE Krishibid Masudur Rahman said
the field level sub assistant agriculture officers were instructed to
motivate the farmers to collect healthy seeds from BADC and government
approved dealers.
