T-Aman paddy harvesting begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 24, 2019 (BSS) – Harvesting of T-Aman paddy, a high value
crop, began in all the seven upazilas of the district yesterday amid much
enthusiasm among the farmers.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) set a target to bring a total of
1,23,067 hectares of land under T-Aman paddy cultivation this year with the
production target of 3,56.894 tonnes of clean rice.

But the target was exceeded as more 2723 hectares of land were brought
under the farming during the current Aman season, sources said.

Of them, some 19,010 hectares of land were brought under this cultivation
in Sadar upazila, 15,115 in Sadullapur upazila, 13,570 in Palashbari upazila,
30,350 in Gobindaganj upazila, 27,070 in Sundarganj upazila, 13,250 in
Shaghata upazila, and 7,425 in Fulchhari upazila, they said.

The paddy grew well and the growers are expecting desired output. Now, the
scenario of the paddy field has taken a new look as the paddy had ripened.

On Saturday, the harvest of Aman paddy started in the district.

A simple function organized by DAE and district administration was also
held at Nashratpur village under Boali union of Sadar upazila here at noon.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the function as the chief
guest while Superintendent of Police (SP) Towhidul Islam, Civil Surgeon Dr.
ABM Abu Hanif and Sadar upazila Chairman Shah Golam Sarwar were present at
the event as special guests.

Deputy Director (DD) of DAE Krishibid Masudur Rahman presided over the
ceremony.

Later, DC Abdul Matin formally inaugurated the harvest through cutting
paddy on the land of one farmer Golam Mostafa of the village.

Talking to the BSS, DAE DD Masudur Rahman said the Aman paddy harvest
would continue in the district till mid-December of the year.

Earlier, seed, fertilizers, pesticides, and other agri-inputs were also
provided to the farmers to boost production of Aman paddy here, he said.
