Aman paddy harvesting nears completion in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Nov 24, 2019 (BSS) – Aman paddy harvesting nears completion
here as ninety percent reaping has already been completed.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) had taken initiatives to bring
81,000 hectares of land under Aman paddy cultivation in all the five upazilas
of the district with a production target of 3, 22,000 tonnes of rice this
year.

DAE sources said, 22 ,000 hectares of land has been brought under Aman
paddy cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 20,200 hectares in Debiganj Upazila,
15,300 hectares in Boda Upazila, 13,000 hectares in Atowary Upazila and
10,500 hectares in Tetulia Upazila .

The department also supplied quality Aman seed, fertilizers and other agri
inputs among the farmers free of cost.

DAE also imparted training to the farmers on modern technology to boost
bumper production.

Farmer Sunil Kumar of sadar upazila said he had cultivated Aman paddy on
three bighas of land. He already reaped the crop and got 60 maund of paddy,
he said.

To make the cultivation a success, different commercial banks including
Rajshahi Krishi Bank have disbursed a significant amount of credit among the
farmers in the district, sources said.

While visiting Aman fields in different areas of the district, this
correspondent found the farmers’ business to harvest and thrash the paddy
with modern machine amid much enthusiasm.

Farmers are very happy to see a bumper production of Aman paddy this
season.

Deputy Director (DD) of DAE Abu Hanif told BSS that their field-level
officers were motivating the farmers to adopt modern technology to boost
production.
