15 Hizb ut-Tahrir men placed on remand

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 23, 2019 (BSS) – A Chattogram court today granted a five-day remand for regional chief of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir Mohammad Ershad Alam and a three-day remand for other 14 members of the outfit.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Saleh Mohammad Noman passed the order while police sought a 10-day remand for the Hizb ut-Tahrir men, including its regional chief, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Senior Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed.

Earlier, members of the CMP police arrested the 15 members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir conducting drives in different areas of the port city from Friday night to early Saturday, Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) of CMP Shah Md Abdur Rauf said.

The arrestees are Hizb ut-Tahrir Chattogram regional chief Abul Mohammad Ershadul Alam, 39, and its members Farhan Bin Farid Prokash Rafi, 35, Md Azimuddin, 31, Abdullah Al Mahfuz, 30, Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, 22, Md Lokman Gani, 29, Mohammad Nazmul Huda, 27, Mohammad Karim, 27, Md Imtiaz Ismail, 25, Md Azimul Huda, 24, Abdullah Al Munim, 22, Kamrul Hasan Prokash Rana, 20, Ariful Islam, 20, Md Samrat, 22, and Walid Ibn Nazim, 18.

Police arrested 13 Hizb ut-Tahrir men from the residential area at Chandgaon when they were holding a meeting. Two others were arrested from Bayezid police station area, the ADC said.

Police seized two laptops, electronic devices, one motorcycle, party leaflets, constitution, training manual and cash Taka 2.82 lakh from their possession, Rauf added.

He said that regional chief of the banned militant outfit Ershadul was a teacher at a private English medium school.
