HC upholds lower court verdict convicting Mir Nasir, his son

DHAKA, Nov 19, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court today upheld the verdict of lower court that sentenced BNP leader Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin to 13 years in jail and his son Mir Mohammad Helaluddin to three years imprisonment in a graft case.

Upon an order of the Appellate Division, a bench of the High Court Division comprising Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice Fatima Najib pronounced the order after rehearing of the graft case.

Advocate Md Asaduzzaman appeared for defendants, while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Upon receiving the copy of the HC verdict, the defendants must surrender within three months, ACC prosecutor Khurshid Alam told BSS.

On July 4, 2007, a Dhaka court sentenced former state minister Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin to 13 years jail for amassing illegal wealth. His son Mir Mohammad Helaluddin was sentenced to three years in prison as he was found guilty of abetting his father in accumulating illegal wealth.
