RAJSHAHI, June 3, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar
Alam, MP, urged the community people to forge social movement against the
addiction of drugs, its trading and trafficking.

He said the present government under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina is determined to free the nation from the curse of drugs-
aggression.

He was addressing a public gathering on creation of mass-awareness against
drugs addiction at Bagha Upazila Parishad auditorium in the district
yesterday as chief guest.

Chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahin Reja, the meeting was addressed,
among others, by Deputy Director of Department of Narcotics Control Lutfor
Rahman and Medical Officer of Upazila Health Complex Dr Shamsun Nahar.

Shahriar Alam said 80 percent of the drug addicts belong to the age group
of 15 to 30 in the country. So, there is no alternative to adopt measures of
combating addiction of drugs.

He said maladjustment, rising crime, health hazards, murder and suicide
are the major consequences of abusing of drugs like heroin, phensidyl, ganja,
pathedrine and tranquilizers.

He said the law enforcement agencies alone isn’t capable to combat the
social disease but community participation coupled with family and social
contribution is very important to this end.

Drugs-addiction-free society must be built at any cost to protect people
particularly the young generation from deadly aggression of the drugs.

The state minister urged the community people to extend their wholehearted
cooperation towards law enforcing agencies with authentic information about
the drugs traders and traffickers so that they could be brought to book.
