2 probe bodies formed over Ctg gas pipeline blast

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 17, 2019 (BSS) – Chattogram district administration and
Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited formed two separate fact-finding
committees on gas pipeline explosion that claimed seven lives in Chattogram
city today.

A five-member probe body of the district administration led by
additional district magistrate AZ Sharif Hossain was formed.

Other members of the committee are deputy director of fire service Md
Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali police station Md Mohsin, a
general manager of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company and ward councillor of
Patharghata under Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).

On the other hand, a four-member probe body of Kharnaphuli Gas
Distribution Company headed by its GM (Engineering Service) Engineer Md
Sarwar Hossain was formed to investigate into the reason behind the
explosion.

Other members are Deputy General Manager (planning) Engineer Shafiul
Alam, DGM (Sales) Engineer Abu Zaher and DGM (Quality Control) Engineer Ahsan
Habib.

The district administration’s fact finding committee will have to submit
its report within five working days while the probe body of Karnaphuli Gas
Distribution Company Limited will have to submit its report to Power, Energy
and Mineral Resources Ministry within one working day.

After visiting the accident spot, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Elias Hossain
said the district administration formed a fact finding committee and the
committee was asked to submit report within five days.

At least seven people, including a child, were killed and 15 others
injured in the gas pipeline explosion that took place in a house in city’s
Patharghata area this morning.
