One jailed for 10 years over gold smuggle

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 17, 2019 (BSS) – A Chattogram court today sentenced a
man to 10 years in jail for smuggling gold three years back.

The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Asfakur
Rahman also fined the convict Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer three months
more imprisonment.

Convict Jamal Uddin is a resident of East Guzara village under Raozan
upazila of the district.

The prosecution story is in brief that acting on a tip-off, a team of
custom department arrested Jamal Uddin at Shah Amanat International Airport,
Chattogram on February 22, 2017 along with six pieces gold bar. Then, a case
was filed with the Patenga police station.

Police submitted charge-sheet against him on March 24, 2017 while the
court framed charges on July 17, 2017.
