RAJSHAHI, Nov 16, 2019 (BSS) – Terming diabetes as a silent killer, health
experts at a seminar today said the disease should be controlled as it causes
many Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
Unhealthy lifestyle is largely responsible for diabetes disease, they said
adding awareness should be created among people to prevent the disease.
Diabetic Welfare Centre — a voluntary organization which works for the
welfare of the diabetic patients in Rajshahi city — organized the seminar at
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) auditorium.
Physicians, diabetic patients and representatives from different
organizations concerned, among others, attended the seminar.
During their keynote presentations, Head of Endocrinology Department of
RMCH Prof Imtiaz Mahbub and its Registrar Dr Matiur Rahman illustrated the
causes, prevention, remedy and management of diabetics.
Prof Imtiaz Mahbub categorically said there is no alternative to creating
mass-awareness to manage diabetics and the government and non-government
entities concerned should come forward and work together to stop the alarming
rise of diabetes disease.
People should maintain a healthy and balanced food habit especially from
early childhood to prevent the silent killer diabetes,” suggested Professor
Mahbub.
He requested the educational institutions and parents to be careful so
that the new generation can grow up with healthy food habit.
Prof Imtiaz Mahbub said about 80 percent people are not aware of the risks
of the silent killer disease diabetes which slowly destroys the immune system
of human body.

Shaheen Akter Rainy, Principal of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Prof Nawshad
Ali, district unit president of Swadhinota Chikitshok Parishad Dr Chinmoy
Kanti Das and President of RMC Teachers Association Dr Sanaul Haque addressed
the seminar.
Chief Medical Officer of Rajshahi University Dr Tabibur Rahman Sheikh was
in the chair.
