Missing my catch forced visitor to pay heavily: Agarwal

INDORE, Nov 15, 2019 (BSS)-India opener Mayank who struck double century to flay Bangladesh on day two of the Indore Test, said he was ready to make the visitor pay if they let him off.

And he got that let off when Imrul Kayes shelled his catch at first slip off Abu Jayed Rahi as Agarwal was on 32.

Keeping his promise, Agarwal, utilized the life fully to hit his career best 243 that helped India take an imposing 343 runs lead against Bangladesh.

It was Agarwal’s second double century in his career and more importantly those two came in the last five innings. In fact he made three centuries in last five innings.

“That’s not in my control [catch miss] but I was thinking that if I have got a chance, I have got to make them pay. When you get a let off, you make sure that you make them pay,” Agarwal said after the day’s play at Indore.

“The wicket has settled down compared to what it was yesterday. Got better to bat on as there is good bounce and good value for your shots,” he added.

In his marathon knock, in which he played 330 balls, Agarwal smacked 28 fours and eight sixes. He also completed his double century with six over long-on region off Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowling.

“I think it goes down to understanding that there had been times when I have not got runs. So I must respect the game that I am batting well. When I am doing that I have to make sure that I make it big and put the team in driver’s seat or put it in such a position that they cannot lose from there. Knowing that you are batting well, its now on you to take the team ahead,” he added.

His shot selection during long knocks particularly was eye-catching. As he respected the good balls, he never hesitated to hit the bad balls out of the park.

“I think it goes down to gameplan. Who you are feeling comfortable against and who you want to attack. Then picking the right balls. Still got to respect the game and you can’t just say that okay I am going to hit each and every ball. You can’t do that. It’s not going to happen that way,” he remarked.
