Strengthening of community policing activities stressed to reduce crimes

RANGPUR, Nov 15, 2019 (BSS) – Strengthening of community policing
activities could effectively eliminate social crimes like drug, militancy,
terrorism, dowry, child marriage and violence against children and women to
build a peaceful society.

Police officials and community leaders said this at the ‘Bit Policing and
Community Policing Meeting’ held at Dewantuli Government Primary School
ground in Mahiganj police station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) here
yesterday afternoon.

Mahiganj Thana of RpMP and Dewantuli Bit Policing Committee jointly
organised the meeting for members of local community policing community,
local community leaders, teachers, students, youths and local elite.

With local community leader Abdul Matin in the chair, Headmistress of
Dewantuli Government Primary School Mosammat Rabeya Khatun attended the
meeting as the chief guest.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mahiganj thana of RpMP Akhteruzzaman Prodhan,
its Inspector (Investigation) Shah Alam Sarder, local community leaders and
social workers Biswanath Mohanta, Alhaj Md. Gias Uddin, Omar Farooque Lincon
and Azharul Islam Selim addressed the meeting as special guests.

The speakers laid especial importance on further strengthening of community
policing activities through enhancing interaction, mutual confidence and
understanding between police and people to maintain law and order in the
society.

Inspector (Investigation) Shah Alam Sarder said common citizens should
assist police force also as per their constitutional obligation to curb and
prevent crimes for building a sustainably peaceful and calm society.

The chief guest urged members of local community policing committee for
engaging spontaneous efforts, involving common people, to extend full
cooperation to police in preventing and resisting social curses, crimes,
terrorism, drug and militancy.

Biswanath Mohanta stressed on bridging common people, members of community
policing committee and police by ensuring better coordination among them for
reducing gap between police and people to control social crimes.
