Cultural function on river held in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 15, 2019 (BSS) – A cultural function on river titled
“Nodimatrik Bangladesh: Terosato Nodi Shudhay Amake” was held on Brahmaputra
River bank at Balashi Ghat under Fulchhari upazila here on Thursday evening
amid festivity.

Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) arranged the function as Deputy Commissioner
(DC) Abdul Matin inaugurated and addressed the function as the chief guest.

Civil surgeon Dr. ABM Abu Hanif, Fulchhari upazila chairman GM Selim
Parvez, officer-in-charge of Fulchhari Police Station M. Kaosar Ali and
general secretary of ZSA Promotosh Saha also spoke at the event as special
guests.

District cultural officer (DCO) Alamgir Kabir made a welcome speech and
narrated the importance and reasons for holding the function on the river
bank.

DC Abdul Matin in his speeches said the government led by Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina took initiatives to save the rivers to be dried for water
scarcity and navigability problem due to silt.

The government would launch ferry service on Balashi Ghat-Bahadurabad Ghat
route immediately and for this, the 23 km long river had been dredged, he
said.

Several artistes of ZSA and other cultural organizations including Balashi
Baul Sangeet Academy of the district rendered songs and performed dances on
the occasion.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life attended the function and enjoyed
it.
