SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 13, 2019 (BSS) – The state-owned mobile service ‘Teletalk’ will be the country’s best mobile service shortly.

“The state sponsored ‘Teletalk’ mobile service undoubtedly would be a best mobile operator in the country …if we are allowed to get some time,” said Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar while responding to a supplementary question made by JP lawmaker Pir Fazlur Rahman in the House here today.

Replying to a query on why teletalk could not improve it’s service compared to services providing by the other private sector mobile operators, the minister said the main reason for the setback of the service is scarcity of financial investment.

Till December 2017, the net investment of the Grameenphone, country’s leading telecommunications service, was Taka 40,000 crore while it was only Taka 3,600 crore for the Teletalk, Jabbar told the parliament.

More Taka 2000 crore has also been invested in the state-owned mobile service for the last one year, the minister said, adding that a project of Taka 3,200 crore for the teletalk has also been submitted to the Planning Commission.

While once upon a time the teletalk has been considered as a ‘moribund’ organization and nobody was agreed to invest in the company, he said, adding that “now we have five investment proposals for the teletalk mobile operator company.”

Teletalk currently has 34.93 lakh active connections.
