Construction works of 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge starts next year: Quader

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 13, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister
Obaidul Quader today said the construction works of the proposed 3rd
Karnaphuli Bridge will start next year under the financial assistance of
Republic of Korea.

“Discussion is going on with the Korean authorities to construct the bridge
road over Karnaphuli River,’ he said while talking to the journalists when
visiting the construction works of eight kilometer long approach Bahaddarhat
to Patiya Crossing this morning.

Kuwait Fund for Arabic Economic Development is financing Taka 396 crore for
this six-line eight kilometers long approach road and Bangladesh Roads and
Highways Department is implementing the project, he added.

Quader, also general secretary of Awami League, said government has taken
decision to introduce metro rail network in the port city and its feasibility
study is going on.

“It’s a good news for the residents of Chattogram that the government has
taken an initiative to construct metro rail,” he said.

He also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed him to begin the
feasibility study of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) lines and he has asked all
concerned to start it soon.

City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin and the former Chairman of CDA Abdus Salam
accompanied the minister during the visit at Shah Amanat Bridge areas.
