Rail communications on Dhaka-Ctg, Ctg-Sylhet routes resume

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2019 (BSS) – The authorities concerned completed rescue
operation in a train accident that took place early today in Brahmanbaria
leaving 16 people killed and over 100 injured.

Eight hours after the deadly train accident in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba
upazila, rail communications on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Chattogram-Sylhet
routes was restored.

The fatal train accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita from
Chattogram collided with Chattogram-bound Udayan Express from Sylhet in the
early hours of today. At least two coaches of Udayan Express were severely
damaged in the accident.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Dr Shirin
Sharmin Chaudhury, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Health Minister Zahid Maleque,
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader and State
Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury expressed deep shock over the
train accident.

Five probe committees were formed to investigate the accident separately.
The Railway Inspection Department was asked to inspect the spot and submit a
report on the accident, officials said.

The Bangladesh Railway authorities formed three probe committees while the
Railway Ministry and the Brahmanbaria District Administration formed one each
to investigate the deadly incident.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said Taka one lakh will be given to
the families of the victims each, who were killed in the accident, while Taka
10,000 to the each injured passenger.

In addition, the minister also said the district administration will also
give Taka 25,000 to each of the deceased’s family for burial.

The Railways Ministry suspended loco master of Turna Nishitha train Taher
Uddin, its assistant loco master Apu Dey and working guard Abdur Rahman after
the lethal train crash at Mandbagh of Brahmanbaria.

“Loco master Taher Uddin, assistant loco master Apu Dey and working guard
Abdur Rahman were suspended,” said senior information officer of the railways
ministry Shariful Alam.
