Effective measures are underway for BB transmission through Bangabandhu satellite-1 : Dr Hasan

SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 11, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the government has taken effective measures to broadcast Bangladesh Betar (BB) programme through the Bangabandhu Satellite-1.

“The broadcasting of Bangladesh Betar programme has so far not been started fully through the Bangabandhu satellite-1…but effective measures have already been taken to operate the broadcasting of the BB programme through the satellite,” said the minister while responding to a query made by treasury bench lawmaker Ahasanul Islam Titu of Tangail-6 in the question-Answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

A total of 45 private television channels so far have been approved, said the minister, adding that 30 of these private channels are on the transmission.

He said Bangladesh Television (BTV) has been airing it’s programme through the satellite since May 30 in 2019 while the thirty other private television channels are being broadcasting their programme through the Bangabandu satellite-1 from October 1, 2019.

Dr Hasan Mahmud told the parliament that a total of 32 test licenses have been given for installation, broadcasting and operation of the community radios.

Of these radios, one is being operated by the government and the other 31 would be operated by the non-government based organizations. The 18 out of 32 community radios are now in operation and the rest 13 are underway for operating their services.

The Agriculture Information Services (AIS) under the Ministry of Agriculture is operating the only government administered community radio-‘Krishi Radio’, stationed at Amtali in Barguna district, he said.
