KHULNA, Nov 11, 2019 (BSS) – The Income Tax zone of Khulna has collected
Tk 2,400 crore in the last 2018-19 fiscal year up by Taka 582cr than previous
fiscal year.

Khulna zone had set up a collection target of Tk 2,840.97 crore from 4,
12,082 tax payers during the 2019-2020 fiscal years.

The zone has realised income taxes revenue of Taka 629cr in the first four
months of the current 2019-20 fiscal year till October 30.

Commissioner of Khulna Income Tax Zone Proshanta Kumar Roy today (Monday)
disclosed it at a press conference held at the Income Tax Building at Boyra
in the city.

“The target surpassed due to continuous efforts to enhance the number of
taxpayers,” he said, adding that the growth rate is significant. To expand
the tax network, various motivational campaigns like spot assessment, survey
and rewards for the taxpayers have been introduced, he added.

“We have set a target to collect Tk 2,500 crore from 3, 00,000 tax payers
in the 2018-19 fiscal, but we have collected Tk 2400 crore,” he said.

He, however, said, we have collected Tk 42.08 crore Income Tax from the
Income Tax Fair last year up by Tk 7.85 crore from the previous year.

There is an urgent need of amending the existing related rules for debarring
the TIN-holders, who don’t pay taxes regularly, from taking certificates. In
present survey, significant numbers of non taxpaying TIN- holders are being
spotted. The odd situation is being adjudged as detrimental to the efforts of
making the tax collection process more vibrant, the commissioner added.

He also said, “We will give honour with crest to 77 highest and long term
tax payers under the Khulna Income Tax zone November 13 ahead of the Income
Tax Fair. The Week-Long Income Tax Fair will begin November 14 and to
continue November 20 at Income Tax Office premises in the city.

At least 5, 50,000 tax payers are expected to submit returns during the
fair, he said adding that the rate of income tax earning has been growing day
by day in the wake of bringing simplicity in the tax realization system
including e-tin registration together with developing cordial relation
between tax officials and taxpayers.

He said the growth rate is significant for the area comprises the
districts of Jashore, Khulna, Magura, Satkhira, Bagerhat and Jhenidah where
there are established big industries including Jute Mills, Shrimp Factories
and Brick Kilns.
