JMB man gets life term in C’nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, July 31, 2017 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced a member of the banned outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) to life-term imprisonment for possessing illegal arms.

The convict is Selim alias Harun Mintry, 34, son of Durul Hoda of Charmohonpur village in Chapainawabganj municipality.

Judge of the Special Tribunal-2 and Additional District and Sessions Judge M Ziaur Rahman pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 with the help of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested Selim from his residence at Zohorpur village under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila with a pistol, two magazines and nine bullets on July 7, 2009.

Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain of RAB-5 filed a case against Selim with Chapainawabganj Sadar police station on the same day.

After investigation, Sub-Inspector Shahin Aktar of the police station submitted a charge sheet to the court on August 6, 2009.

The judge, after examining 14 witnesses and evidences, handed down the verdict.
