‘Vaccine Hero’ award inspires health service providers: Zahid

DHAKA, Nov 6, 2019 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare minister Zahid
Maleque today said the ‘Vaccine Hero’ award has inspired all health service
providers to contribute better in health sector.

“Prime minister Sheikh Hasina recently received the prestigious award in
recognition of Bangladesh’s outstanding success in vaccination to immunise
children… This achievement also inspired the healthcare providers to work
spontaneously in the sector,” he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a function for celebrating the
achievement of ‘Vaccine Hero’ award at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in
the city with Secretary of the ministry M Asadul Islam in the chair, said a
press release.

Community Clinic Health Support Trust President Prof Dr Syed Modasser Ali,
Director General (DG) of Health Services Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, DG of the
Directorate General of Family Planning Kazi AKM Mohiul Islam, World Health
Organisation (WHO) Representative to Bangladesh Dr Bardan Jung Rana and
Unicef representative Veera Mendonca were present, among others.

The minister urged the people of the country to continue the vaccination
programme to develop a healthy new generation that would build a prosperous
Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation.

He expressed his optimism to reach the target of ‘vaccines for all’ in the
country ahead of 2030.

The minister said the success of Bangladesh in vaccination programme is
now globally acknowledged.

Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunisations (GAVI), a global Vaccine
Alliance, conferred the award on the prime minister at a ceremony at the UN
Headquarters in New York on September 23 evening local time.
