Domestic agriculture vital to hasten rural economy

RAJSHAHI, Oct 30, 2019 (BSS)-Speakers at a discussion here today mentioned that the role of domestic agriculture is very important towards hastening the rural economy side by side women empowerment and poverty reduction.

They viewed all the government and non-government organizations concerned should come forward and work together to transform the existing practice of domestic agriculture into time-fitting, modernized and profitable.

The observation came at a divisional-level view-sharing meeting titled “Bangladesh’s Domestic Agriculture Practice and its Crisis and Prospects” held at the conference hall of Deputy Director’s Office of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Rajshahi.

Paribartan, a rights-based development organization, hosted the meeting in association with actionaid discussing and devising ways and means on how to make the domestic agriculture practice more effective and need-oriented.

DAE Deputy Director Shamsul Haque addressed the meeting as chief guest while District unit President of Bangladesh Krishak League Rabiul Alam and District Training Officer of DAE Monzurul Haque spoke as special guests with Director of Trinamul Jalal Uddin in the chair.

Paribartan Director Rashed Ibney Obayed presented a concept paper on the issue while Assistant Professor Mizanul Islam from Department of Economics in Rajshahi College spoke as focal person.

Taking part in the open discussion some of the attending farmers and youths put forward a set of recommendations to solve the existing problems in the field of domestic agriculture to encourage more rural women towards the homestead farming.

In his remarks, Shamsul Haque told the meeting that the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to promote the home-based agricultural activities.

‘One House One Farm’ programme, one of the ten special initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is the bright instance in this field, he added.
