Stocks close week down

DHAKA, May 31, 2018 (BSS) – Stocks finished the week down on Thursday with falling trend of all major price indices at Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges as the daily transactions declined amid volatility in large-cap securities.

The broader DSEX of the DSE finished the week with 85.81 points down at 5,353.88. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 39.88 points down at 1,975 and with 21.39 points down at 1,238.31 respectively.

Out of the 343 issues traded at the DSE today, 214 issues gained against 102 losing issues.

During the week, the daily average trade value decreased by 3.93 percent to Taka 453.03 crore. But the average trade volume rose by 5.84 percent to 11.34 crore shares.

The top five gainers of the week were Alif Industries Limited, Monno Jute Stafflers, Safko Spinnings Mills, Shasha Denims and Khulna Power Company.

The major losing issues of the week were Rupali Bank, Asia Pacific General Insurance Company, National Credit and Commerce Bank, National Bank and Eastern Insurance.

The top five turnover leaders were Intraco Refueling Station, Bangladesh Export Import Company, Berger Paints Bangladesh, Alif Industries and United Power Generation and Distribution Company.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the week down, with its major CASPI index ending 258.22 points lower at 16,491.10.
