PM for boosting Bangladesh-Thai Agri cooperation

DHAKA, May 31, 2018 (BSS)-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today put emphasis
on boosting cooperation between Bangladesh and Thailand in agriculture sector
for mutual benefits of the two countries.

The prime minister expressed the view when visiting Thai Princess Maha
Chakri Sirindhom paid a courtesy call on her at her office here this morning.

After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.

He said the prime minister and Thai princess mainly discussed the
agriculture sector and laid stress on enhancing cooperation between the two
countries in this sector.

The issue of raising cooperation on the food processing sector came up for
discussion.

The prime minister apprised Maha Chakri Sirindhom of her government’s
different programmes including “Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar” project and micro-
savings scheme.

While talking about Bangladesh’s success in agriculture sector, the prime
minister said the Bangladeshi scientists have innovated salinity, flood and
drought-tolerant rice to increase food production.

Sheikh Hasina told the Thai princess that Bangladesh has become self-
sufficient in sweet water fish and producing a huge quantity of meat every
year from black Bengal goats, cows and lambs.

The prime minister showed her interest in boosting cooperation on mango
cultivation as Thailand is famous for producing the popular fruit round-the-
year.

The Thai princess informed the premier that her country has provided
“vetiver grass” to Bangladesh through a project. The grass is tall, thick and
it helps protect the soil from erosion, she said.

She said Thailand is importing Bangladesh litchi which is very popularly
among the Thai people.

PM’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, State Minister for
Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman,
Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Sayeeda Muna Tasneem and Thai Ambassador in
Dhaka Panpimon Suwannapongse were present on the occasion.
