People need to be aware of proper waste disposal: Tajul

DHAKA, Oct 24, 2019 (BSS) – Minister for Local Government, Rural
Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Md Tajul Islam laid emphasis on proper
waste management.

“Public awareness and participation is the key to successful waste
management. Along with the government, people have to come forward for proper
waste management, “according to a press release.

He made the comments while addressing as chief guest at a workshop ‘
Bangladesh-Japan from waste to power ‘at the Hotel Intercontinental today.

LGRD Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed presided over the workshop while former
Global Environment Affairs Deputy Minister of Japan, Shigemoto Kajihara, was
present as special guest.

Tajul said “Japan is a good friend of Bangladesh. Since Bangladesh’s
independence, Japan has been supporting our economic development as well as
helping us to improve skills. Japan is working on eco-friendly waste
management by using advanced technology. We can use Japanese technology and
experience”.

A number of Japanese companies have built power plants from waste in
different countries of the world. The Japanese companies participating in the
workshop have expressed their interest to invest in this sector in
Bangladesh.

Among others, Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Islam Chowdhury,
Additional Secretary of LGRD division Mahbub Hossain and chiefs of different
organisations were present at the workshop.
