Govt to set up community vision centers at every upazila: Zahid

DHAKA, Oct 21, 2019 (BSS) – The government has earmarked to set up community vision centers at every upazila, a people-centric stupendous step in the health sector to provide better eye care services to rural masses.

This was told by Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleaque today this as chief guest at a discussion marking the World Sight Day at The National Eye Science Institute and Hospital.

“We have already established 50 community vision centers which cover eye care of over one crore marginal people, and setting up of 150 centers is underway,” he said.

“Many are suffering from vision problems, helping those unfortunates to see the world with proper care is crucial, so, we must work collectively to ensure the primary eye care service for all,” said the minister.

Director of the hospital Prof Dr Golam Mostafa presided over the programme while secretary of Health Service Divisions Asadul Islam, former Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Deen Muhammad Nurul Haque and other ophthalmologists spoke, among others.

Earlier, the minister joined a rally organized to mark the Day.
