Govt forming cell to control mosquito-borne diseases: Tazul

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2019 (BSS) – Against the backdrop of this year’s alarming dengue prevalence across the country that claimed many lives, the government is going to form a separate cell to control the mosquito-borne diseases.

“The Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Ministry will form a cell in this regard. An additional secretary of the ministry has already been tasked to prepare a draft of terms of references of the cell,” LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam said today while addressing a seminar in the city.

Center for Governance Studies (CGS) organized the seminar titled ‘Vector Problems in Bangladesh: an Integrated Approach’ at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in the city’s Eskaton area, said a press release here.

There is no alternative to public awareness to prevent the mosquito-borne diseases and other-related ills, Tazul said, urging the authorities concerned to include chapters in the syllabus of national curriculum on mosquito related diseases and instructions regarding movement of people in roads.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan addressed the seminar as the special guest while CGS Vice Chairman Dr Manjur Ahmed Chowdhury presented a keynote paper on the topic.

Conducted by CGS Executive Director Zillur Rahman, a large number of entomologists, researchers and university teachers took part in the seminar.
