Artist Kalidas Karmakar dies

DHAKA, Oct 18, 2019 (BSS) – Ekushey Padak winner and an internationally-
reputed painter and printmaker Kalidas Karmakar passed away at the age of 75
in a city hospital this afternoon.

He is survived by hosts of relatives and well wishers, including three
brothers, two daughters, who are currently living in United States.

He died at Labaid Specialised Hospital in the city around 3 pm today
following a cardiac arrest at his Eskaton residence, Fine Art Faculty Dean
Professor Nisar Hossain told BSS.

The artist was a specialist in the arena of viscosity printing and awarded
Shilpakala Padak in 2016, the Sultan Gold Award in 2015 and Ekhushey Padak in
2018 for his contribution to fine arts, according to the Wikipedia sources.

Born on January 10, 1946, in Faridpur district, Kalidas completed his
graduation from the Government College of Fine Arts and Crafts in Kolkata in
1969.

He completed his pre-degree study in Fine Arts at the Institute of Fine
Arts, Dhaka University in 1964.
