Govt working to establish knowledge-based society: Palak

DHAKA, May 30, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak today said the government is working to establish knowledge-based society through bringing all people under digital services.

“We have to ensure improved internet services, if we want to expand digital services across the country,” he told a session of Tallinn e-Governance Conference-2018 at Tallinn, capital of Estonia, an official release said here today.

President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid inaugurated the two-day conference while Prime Minister of Estonia Lucia Allen Chastanet attended the panel discussion titled “How to manage digital citizen centre e-governance”.

Palak said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared the Vision-2021 to promote ICT based services for all level of people of the country.

He said the government has increased, after assuming power, internet penetration sharply to supplement the efforts of the government to build a digital Bangladesh.

In 2008, only 0.4 percent people in the country used internet services while proportion of current internet penetration is 53 percent, Palak said adding the government has a target to reach 90 percent internet penetration by 2021.
