2 Neo-JMB men arrested over attacks on police in city

DHAKA, Oct 14, 2019 (BSS) – Counter Terrorism and Transitional Crime Unit (CTTC) personnel have arrested two active members of banned militant outfit Neo-JMB in connection with bomb attacks on police in city’s Gulistan and Science Laboratory.

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Chief of CTTC Md Manirul Islam said the CTTC team conducted a special drive at Mohammadpur area in the city last night and arrested two Neo-JMB militants from there.

The arrestees were identified as Md Mehedy Hasan Tamim and Md Abdullah Azmir. Police also recovered a laptop and three mobile phone sets from their possession during the drive.

The arrestees were allegedly involved in attacking police with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in city’s Gulistan and Science Laboratory area, he told journalists, while briefing at the DMP media centre today.

The arrestees were sent to the court seeking 10 days remand, Monirul said. On April 29, a bomb attack was carried out on duty police members at Gulistan in city, leaving three persons injured.

Apart from this, on August 31, another crud bomb was thrown in city’s Science Laboratory area at night, while LGRD Minister Tazul Islam and his escorting motor vehicles were crossing the area. Two police personnel were wounded in that incident.
