SM Sultan’s 25th death anniversary observed

NARAIL, Oct 10, 2019 (BSS)-The 25th death anniversary of renowned artist
SM Sultan was observed in a befitting manner at his birthplace in the
district today as people from all sections of the society pay rich tributes
to the great son of the country.

The SM Sultan foundation and district administration jointly organized
elaborate programmes to mark the famous artist’s death anniversary.

The programmes include Quran Khani, Dua and Milad Mahfil, Art competition,
discussion on Sultan’s life and works and prize giving ceremony.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anjuman Ara was present the programme as the
chief guest while police super Md. Jashim Uddin, Additional Deputy
Commissioner (ADC) Md. Yarul Islam, Narail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer
(UNO) Salma Selim, SM Sultan Art College principal Anadi Boiragi, Additional
Public Prosecutor Advocate Alomgir Siddique, Press Club President Enamul
Kabir Tuku and Secretary Shamimul Islam Tulu among others were present.

Over 100 children participated in the art competition at Shishu Swarga
auditorium. Hundreds of people thronged Sultan’s mazar in the morning to pay
their rich tributes and seek eternal blessings for the departed soul.

Sultan was born at Masumdia in Narail town on 10 august, 1924. He died in
Jashore Combined Military Hospital on 10 October, 1994.

Sultan was adorned with Ekushey Padak in 1982, Bangladesh Charu Shilpi
Sangsad Award in 1986 and Swadhinata Padak in 1993.

He was declared the Man of Asia in 1982 by Cambridge University and
Bangladesh government declared him as resident of artist in 1984.
