PM urges India to convince Myanmar to take back Rohingyas

NEW DELHI, Oct 5, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today requested India to convince Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas, who were forcibly displaced from their homeland in Rakhain state of Myanmar.

“The two leaders discussed the Rohingya issue during the talks and both of them have agreed on sending them back to their homeland,” Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque said while briefing newsmen about the outcome of bilateral talks between the two leaders at Hotel Taj Mahal here.

Referring to the “best of the best” relations the countries are now enjoying, he said, “The Bangladesh prime minister has requested his Indian counterpart to convince Myanmar to send the Rohingyas back to their homeland cashing in on their very good relations with Myanmar.”

In this regard, the senior secretary also said the two leaders also held meetings in New York about the topic. High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Syed Muazzem Ali and PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present at the briefing.
