Myanmar to issue NVC to each verified Rohingya: Momen

DHAKA, Oct 2, 2019 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said Myanmar has agreed to provide their NVC (National Verification Card) to all verified Rohingyas, staying in Bangladesh.

“They (Myanmar) agreed to give NVC to each Rohingya after the verification,” he told reporters after attending a seminar in the capital.

Momen said Myanmar acknowledged that the forms, distributed among the Rohingyas to fill up for verification, got some errors.

Myanmar will create new forms and will provide NVC, which is next to citizenship, to each of verified Rohingya, he said.

The Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) organised the seminar on ‘preventing radicalization and violent extremism through empowering youths’ at a city hotel.

In the afternoon at the curtain raiser press briefing over Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s India visit, the foreign minister said during the UN general assembly, the entire world acknowledged that Myanmar created the problem and they have to take back their people.

Referring to the Bangladesh-Myanmar foreign minister level meeting mediating by their Chinese counterpart on the sideline of the UN General Assembly, Momen said the meeting decided to form a tripartite working group comprising Bangladesh, China and Myanmar to see the Rohingya repatriation process on the ground.

He said the Chinese attitude towards the Rohingya crisis has been changed a lot in favour of Bangladesh as “China is now very actively engaged and asked Myanmar to take some Rohingya representatives inside Rakhine to make them believe that a conducive environment has been created there for them (Rohingyas).”

Bangladesh is hosting over 1.1 million forcefully displaced Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar district and most of them arrived there since August 25, 2017 after a military crackdown by Myanmar, which the UN called a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing” and “genocide” by other rights groups.
