Holistic approach must to sustain process of youth development

RAJSHAHI, May 29, 2018 (BSS)- Experts at a discussion here underscored the
need for concerted efforts of all government and non-government organizations
concerned to sustain the process of youth development.

They mentioned attention should be given to train youth on the promotion of
universal human rights, existing national laws of the country, prevention of
cyber crimes and international crimes.

Time has come to incorporate all the youths in the development process so
that they can contribute to the national efforts to achieve the sustainable
development goals.

The observations came at a regional workshop to develop National Plan of
Action for Implementation of National Youth Policy-2017 here yesterday.

Department of Youth Development (DYD) hosted the workshop at Postal Academy
Auditorium in association United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA).

Director (Training) of DYD Jahangir Alam addressed the meeting as the chief
guest with Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader in the chair.

UNFPA National Programme Officer Dr Munir Hossain and DYD Deputy Director
Matiur Rahman and Assistant Director Chaina Banarjee, Executive Director of
Barendra Unnayan Prochesta Foyzullah Chowdhury, Editor of Daily Sonar Desh
Akbarul Hassan Millat and local unit president of Women Chamber of Commerce
and Industries Prof Rozety Naznin also spoke.

The meeting was told that the policy promotes youth exchange among
different countries but this exchange should not be limited to international
exchange. An exchange between rural and urban youth would be encouraged to
promote national solidarity, brotherhood and cultural integration.

Jahangir Alam says youth population as a target group should be entitled to
get special attention and priority from different ministries. The ministry of
youth and sports cannot alone assure an integrated youth development.

Ministry of planning and ministry of finance will have to play a leading
role in introducing a reform for comprehensive youth development.

Besides, proactive engagement and effective partnership with private
sector, youth community, civil society organisations and media are inevitable
to sustain the process of youth development.

Considering the bulk of youth population and their needs at home, there are
very limited opportunities for youth skills development in fostering
professional growth. This policy has laudably identified a number of
disadvantaged and marginalised youth.
