Affordable, reliable, modern energy for everyone: Elahi

DHAKA, Sept 26, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s energy advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury today said Bangladesh is making persistent efforts to ensure affordable, reliable and modern energy for everyone by 2030.

He said this while representing Bangladesh at a high level conference titled ‘The LNG Producer-Consumer Conference’ in Tokyo, according to a message received here.

The advisor described various aspects of Bangladesh energy policies as well as different plans taken by the present government at the conference.

Ministers and high officials from Japan, Qatar, Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Thailand and Vietnam also spoke at the conference held with the theme of “cooperation between producer and consumer toward next fifty year”.

The main objective of the conference, being held every year since 2012, was to exchange knowledge, experiences and ideas among the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) producers, clients and other stakeholders.

The conference also discussed role and importance of LNG to ensure affordable and pollution free energy in line with the UN declared seventh Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

Later, Tawfiq-e-Elahithe held bilateral meeting with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Hiroshige Seko.

During the meeting, he sought Japanese technical assistance to help Bangladesh in extracting oil, gas and other natural mineral resources.

The advisor also attended ‘Hydrogen Conference’ where he discussed numerous issues with JICA’s senior vice president Junichi Yamada and other Japanese business teams.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Rabab Fatima was present during the meetings.
