ACC chief seeks help of all concerned in investigation

DHAKA, Sept 26, 2019 (BSS) – Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood today urged officials concerned to cooperate the commission with providing necessary information in its efforts to carry out investigation into corruption-related activities.

“Help the Anti-Corruption Commission by giving necessary information for investigation into any corruption-related matter . . . Stern actions will be taken against those who would not help in this connection,” the chief of anti-graft watchdog told officials at a training workshop at the ACC Headquarters in Segunbagicha area.

The ACC chairman sounded a note of warning against the officials of the commission, saying that irregularities and non-cooperation regarding this would not be tolerated anyway.

The US Justice Department and UNODC organized the workshop for the officials of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and ACC officials.

Mahmood suggested the ACC officials not to sit idle issuing the letters only and follow the forward diary instead to gear up the activities.

The ACC chairman said, “We can do many things but we don’t do, it cannot go in this way . . . It should come to an end”.

He also advised the investigation officers to do necessary homework before quizzing the offenders as the query is an important part to achieve a success in any investigation.

Mahmood said the commission in the meantime started investigating money laundering cases along with the other agencies concerned.

The commission expects inflicting proper punishment to the criminals through perfect and internationals-standard investigation, the ACC chairman said, adding that, “If it can ensure proper investigation and prosecution of any case, it is possible to ensure cent percent punishment,” he observed.

ACC Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Bakhth, DG (investigation) Md Mostafizur Rahman, DG (money laundering) ANM Al- Feroz, DG (administration) Md Jahir Raihan and DG (training and ICT) AKM Sohel, among others, were present.
