Farmers urged to farm vegetables on homesteads to get nutrition

GAIBANDHA, May 29, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here yesterday urged the char farmers to cultivate various vegetables on their homesteads to get nutrition.

“The farmers will also be able to earn economical profit through selling the additional vegetables locally after meeting their family demand and the earned money will help them run their families smoothly”, they said.

They made the comments while addressing a concluding ceremony of two-day long alternative income generating training for marginalized char farmers on homestead gardening at the training centre of a voluntary organization at Madnerpara under Fulchhair upazila on Monday.

Friendship, a reputed non government organization in the country, arranged the training under Good Governance Project, Inclusive Citizenship Sector with the financial support of ERIKS development partner, Friendship Luxemburg.

Journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman addressed the function as the guest of honor while regional manager M. Amdadul Hoque presided over the ceremony.

District manager of the organization Abdus Salam, and assistant project manager Rezwanul Haque were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, deputy director of department of agriculture extension AKM Ruhul Amin conducted the training sessions as the main focal person while sub assistant agriculture officer M. Mehedia Hasan was the course facilitator.

The participants were imparted training on the production of various vegetables including lal shak, pui shak, napa shak, data, brinjal, ladies finger, cabbage, radish bottle gourd and pumpkin properly.

The participants were also given conception about pest attack on the vegetables and the prevention of the diseases side by side with the nutrition value of the vegetables.

A total of 30 marginalized farmers coming form 22 chars of Sadar and Fulchhari upazilas took part in the training.
