2 gets capital punishment for killing man in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 28, 2018 (BSS)- A Chattogram court today awarded death
penalty to two persons for killing a CNG-run three wheeler owner cum driver
six years back.

The 7th court of Chattogram Additional District and Sessions Judge Ferdouse
Ara pronounced the verdict convicting Mohammad Alam and Mohammad Ali Azam.

The court also acquitted two other persons as the allegation brought
against them could not be proved. The court fined them Taka 50 thousand each.

The prosecution story in brief, is that Akther Hossain, a CNG-run three-
wheeler driver cum owner was chopped to death on the night of September 4 in
2012 by the convicted persons at Chattogram University (CU) campus under
Hathazari thana of the district.

The killers also looted valuables and cell phone and stole the three
wheeler from the spot. Police recovered the body from the CU campus after
getting confessional statement of the murderers on October 3 in 2012.

Victim’s elder brother Mohammad Rafique filed a murder case with Hathazari
thana on September 15 in 2012. Police submitted charge sheet accusing four
people on July 15, 2013.

The court pronounced the judgment after examining 11 prosecution’s
witnesses out of 13.

The judge delivered the verdict in absence of a convicted person, Mohammad
Ali Azam who remained fugitive after getting bail, court sources said.
