DHAKA, May 28, 2018(BSS)-Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, today
appealed to journalists to be sensitive and objective while reporting on
conflict situations.
They should refrain from provocation at all costs, particularly in such
situations, he added.
The minister was speaking at a seminar on “Journalistic sensitivity in
conflict situations” at the Daily Star conference room in city’s Farm Gate
area.
Inu further said credible information was important to dispel rumors.
Therefore, it was incumbent upon journalists to provide it particularly in
times of social or political distress.
“If the mass media fails in its duty then rumors will be rife,” he said.
Referring to the influx of Rohingyas into Bangladesh from Myanmar, he said
journalists had to be cautious that reporting such incidents was not
provocative. The same is true while reporting problems and disputes with
other neighbors like India.
