Naming streets after martyred UN peacekeepers demanded

DHAKA, May 28, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a human-chain today demanded for naming streets or flyovers of Dhaka city after Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers who laid down their lives for establishing peace in UN missions.

Coalition of Local NGOs, Bangladesh (CLNB) and Peacekeepers Memorial School and College formed the human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club, said a press release.

CLNB Chairman Harunur Rashid presided over it while labour leader Harun-Ar Rashid Bhuiyan, Gonosasthya chief executive Saiful Islam Shishir, Dhaka University senate member Nargis Jahan Banu, Supreme Court senior lawyer Afjal Hossain, Nagarik Parishad convener Mohammed Shamsuddinm, Samajtantrik Majdur Party General Secretary Dr Samsul Alam, human right activist Md Hanif, garments workers leader Kamrunnahar and Khadija attended it, among others.

The speakers also welcomed International Day of UN Peacekeepers and the 30th anniversary of Bangladesh participation at UN peacekeeping missions.

They expressed profound shock at the death of two Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers in Central Africa on Saturday.

The speakers said Bangladesh peacekeepers in UN missions are playing crucial roles in establishing peace and bringing praises for the country.
