HC clears way for BAIRA polls

DHAKA, May 28, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today stayed a Commerce
Ministry order for three months, paving the way to hold election of
Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) on June
24.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and
Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal passed the order after holding hearing on a writ
filed in this regard.

“Now there is no legal bar to hold the election on the prescheduled date,”
Barrister Rashna Imam, who moved the writ before the court, told the newsmen.

Earlier, the Ministry of Commerce issued an order, extending the tenure of
the present executive committee of BAIRA for another nine months. Ten members
of the organization later filed a writ challenging the ministry order.

The court today also issued a rule, asking to explain as to why it shall
not declare the ministry order illegal.
