Under-23 series: Bangladesh seals thrilling 5-run win against India

DHAKA, Sept 21, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh Under-23 team held the never in the crunch moment to clinch a nervy five-run win over India U23 in the second match of the five-match one-day series and thereby made it 1-1 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday.

The visitors conceded a 34-run defeat in the first match and was in the cornered situation to loss the second one also. But they held the nerve in the last moment to capture the rare victory.

For some years, Bangladesh was used to concede defeat from this position in any level of cricket including the national team against India with the latest was Under-19 team’s defeat in the last over of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup.

And when India U23 needed nine runs in the last over, it seemed they would make it their day by winning the match.

However, Sumon Khan held the nerve to remove Indian captain Priyam Garg in the penultimate over as he appeared to take the side home.

Priyam was out on 53 and India collapse to be restricted to 212-7 in 36 as they were given a revised target of 218 to win in 36 overs.

Bangladesh earlier made 149-2 in 36 overs in a rain curtailed match. However as per the D/L method India’s target stood 218 in 36 overs.

For Bangladesh captain Saif Hasan scored highest 64 while Fardeen Hasan was not out on 47.

India U23 was on course for a victory after their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Madhav Koushik shared 77 runs in just 15.3 overs. Both of the opener contributed identical 34 runs.

After their departure, BR Sharath and captain Priyam Garg kept the side in the hunt until Sumon Khan took the prized scalp of Sharath for 55.

Priyam though was in the crease, Bangladeshi bowlers bowled well to curb their aggression and later held the nerve when it mattered most.

Sumon Khan and Abu Haider Rony took two wickets apiece for Bangladesh Under-23 team.
