Winning start for Bangladesh in SAFF U-18 Championship

DHAKA, Sept 21, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh U-18 national football team got off to a winning start in the SAFF U-18 Championship as they blanked Sri Lanka by 3-0 goals in their group A opening match held on Saturday at APF Stadium in Khatmandu, Nepal.

In the day’s match, Tanbir Hossain opened an account for Bangladesh early in the 1st minute while medio Fahim Morshed doubled the lead for Bangladesh in the 77th minute.

Striker Faisal Hossain Fahim sealed the victory scoring the third goal for Bangladesh in the 86th minute of the match.

After the match, Fahim Morshed said it’s feeling good to have a win in the first match as my goal helped to seal the victory.

He said as it was their first match of the tournament so have committed some silly mistakes but at the same time he hoped that they would work on those mistakes and would not repeat those in the next match.

Bangladesh, the runners-up of the previous edition in 2017, will play their last group match against India on Monday (September 23).

The group round matches will conclude on September 25 after which the top two sides from each group will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for September 27.

The final will be held on September 29. All the matches will be held at APF Stadium in Khatmandu.
