DHAKA, Sept 19, 2019 (BSS) – Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today urged the physicians and pharmacists to draw up a comprehensive treatment mechanism to ensure a universal healthcare benefiting the people.
“If it is possible to utilize the pharmaceutical sector properly, country’s economy will become stronger . . . I urge doctors and pharmacists to work unitedly to ensure an universal health service,” he said while speaking at a discussion in the capital.
Referring to the tremendous advancement of the country’s health sector under the apt leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the speaker said Bangladesh is really proud of its physicians’ outstanding successes in different times.
The Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh organized the discussion on “Policy Dialogue on Good Pharmacy Practice in Hospital Pharmacy Settings of Bangladesh” at a city hotel with Health and Family Welfare Ministry Secretary Md Asadul Islam in the chair.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malik, MP and State Minister for the Public Administrationry Forhad Hossain, MP, Dhaka University Prof Emeritus A K Azad Chowdhury, Director General (DG) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Bangladesh Dr Bardan Jung Rana and Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) President Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, among others, were present there.
Recalling the contribution of pharmaceuticals sector to the national economy as a key contributor, the speaker said the pharmacists are making their relentless efforts and utilizing expertise for the health sector by undertaking research, drug output and marketing and application worldwide.
She said about 98 percent of medicines against the country’s total demand are being produced here, with huge quantities of drugs exporting
to many countries.
Dr Chaudhury put emphasis on recruiting skilled pharmacists at all hospitals to minimize misuse of medicines.
