DHAKA, Sept 19, 2019 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam today said operation of all gambling rings or casinos will be shut down in the capital.

“No illegal gambling rings or casinos will be allowed to operate in the capital. All those involved in the illegal business will be brought under trial, no matter how much influential they are,” he told journalists at the DMP headquarters here today.

Noting that Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has already started drives against casinos, Shafiqul said police will also begin their drives against those.

All officials concerned have been instructed to make lists of all illegal gambling spots and people involved with the illegal business, the DMP chief said, adding, “I have already received a list from a zone and I hope to get lists from the remaining zones soon”.

Those who gamble at the casinos also take drugs, he said, adding, “So, if the casinos are stopped, drug abuse will also stop there”.

Tough actions, however, will be taken if anyone tries to operate drug business after shutting the casinos, Shafiqul said, adding the police will help continue healthy recreation in the city.

“Police are tough in applying the laws. Zonal DCs have been instructed not to allow such things. Yet, if anyone tries to operate casinos or get involved with this, he or she will be brought under trial,” the DMP chief said.
