Mural of Bangabandhu to be set up at Shillong

DHAKA, Sept 17, 2019 (BSS)- A mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be set up at Shillong in the Indian state of Meghalaya marking his birth centenary.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said this today as visiting Bangladesh Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud met him at his Shillong office, according to a release received here.

During the meeting, Dr Hasan gave heartfelt thanks to the people of Meghalaya for their cordial cooperation during the War of Liberation.

The information minister said Bangladesh is now importing chips of stone for construction and architecture. The cost will be reduced, if the chips of stone are imported from Meghalaya, he added.

Dr Hasan said Meghalaya can import rubber from Bangladesh cheaply, the release said.

Sangma said the state government will construct conveyer belt for easing the transportation of stone. He assured that they will give priority to importing rubber from Bangladesh.

Both of them put emphasis on bus connectivity on Tamabil-Dauki route, integrated check post, and easing border haat management.

Later, Dr Hasan handed over to Sangma some gifts including a copy of Karagarer Rojnamcha (English version) of Bangabandhu, replica of ‘Boat’, Nakshi Kantha and Jamdani.

Dr Hasan invited the Meghalaya chief minister to attend the birth centenary programme of Bangabandhu next year.

During the meeting, information minister’s wife Nuran Fatema, Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Guwahati SM Tanvir and senior officials were present.

Earlier, the information minister visited the ‘samadhistal’ of legendary singer Bupen Hazarika in Guwahati and paid rich tribute to him.
